Val Saint-Côme (CAN) World Cup 14th-19th January 2014

Val Saint-Côme (CAN) World Cup 14th-19th January 2014

Second stop on the North American part of the World Cup tour is Val Saint-Côme in Quebec, Canada. Home to the the Val Saint-Côme Freestyle Excellence Centre and the “Quebec Air Force”, this event will be one of the last chances for athletes to claim their places in Sochi for the Winter Olympic Games 2014.

Great Britain’s Harry Gillam and Lloyd Wallace will both be competing in the event. We wish them the best of luck!

The aerial action takes place on the 14th and moguls on the 19th but the pressure will be on right from the start. The World’s media and the public will be waiting to see who gains the precious spots to represent their country at the Olympic Games. As soon as the aerialists have completed their event they will dash to Lake Placid for the next World Cup event on the 18th and their last chance for Olympic qualification.

The Val Saint-Côme jump site is lit to allow athletes to train and compete at night and is also supported by state-of-the-art snowmaking equipment in order for the freestyle skier’s training season to begin as early as possible.

There have been challenges this weekend as the mountain resort was closed to skiers on Sunday 6th January 2014 due to rain and six condominiums at the foot of the mountain were reduced to rubble by a fire which broke out in the early morning. The rain has now turned to snow and we hope they manage to get everything back on course in good time for the World Cup.
