Val Saint-Côme 2014 Update

Val Saint-Côme 2014 Update

After a spectacular event in Deer Valley, the aerials World Cup has moved to Val Saint-Côme, approximately 120km north of Montreal in Quebec, Canada. The aerials event takes place on the 14th January 2014.

So far, conditions have been challenging, not just for the resort, which has suffered some rain but also for Harry Gillam; which just goes to show that it’s not all glamour when you’re a skier on the World Cup tour.

Not the start anyone wanted for the WC at Val Saint-Côme, for me it turned into travel nightmare. Connecting flights into Montreal were delayed due to high winds. We then got a message that the road conditions in Val Saint-Côme were extremely bad and we were to get to our transit hotels and stay there as transportation to the resort that evening was cancelled. When we eventually arrived in Montreal some of our bags didn’t!

Being stuck at the airport at 1 am in the morning filling in claim forms wasn’t our idea of fun. As it got so late I changed hotels for the night and just crashed out. Hoping the bags turn up today as its training on a tight schedule. A shout out for all the friends who helped get spare kit for me till mine arrives.

Tomorrow is another day and its got to get better! Hoping for our bags to arrive and the internet to be fixed at the hotel. – Harry

The weather forecast for competition day is predicting warm weather (for Canada) with temperatures ranging from +2ºC to -6ºC and 2mm-4mm of light rain.

On a more positive note…Harry will be joined in Canada by Lloyd Wallace and his father Robin (as coach). They flew out from Britain at the weekend and hope to arrive safely with their luggage to attend this event and the Lake Placid competition on the 18th January 2014. Perhaps the trick is to disguise your skis as golf equipment.
