British Top Ten Results again and again

British Top Ten Results again and again

It is hard to believe but despite having no funding, the British Aerial Ski Team are delivering top 10 results at international level with regularity.

We’ve seen 15 of those in the last 2 years. Here are our highlights:

8th, Lloyd Wallace, December 2014
The first Europa Cup of the season in Finland is always a big one as many teams use Ruka for pre-season training. This year was no exception with teams from Canada, Australia, Russia, Belarus, Switzerland, Kazakhstan, Ukraine and Britain. Unusually for Ruka the weather was far from ideal with wind and snow. After a few triples the mens contest was re-started limited to doubles. Lloyd found doubles very comfy after training triples and confidently put down 2 high and straight jumps with clean landings. He placed 8th out of a strong field of 30.

8th, Harry Gillam, August 2013
On a beautifully sunny day at the Lac Beauport water-ramp in Quebec Harry blasted out his new triple twisting triple the lay double-full full, scoring a massive 106.88 which for the first time put him in the top 12 final. In the next round he repeated the trick and scored even higher with 108.96 putting him into 4th place. With nothing to lose, and not wanting to downgrade his difficulty Harry unleashed the lay full double-full, scoring 67.97 with a small mistake, but delighted to finish the day in 8th place.

6th, Elodie Wallace, March 2014
At the Europa Cup in Airolo Elodie’s training had been going very well, and she had been working on her back full, but decided to jump tactically due to some tricky conditions. Her layout was huge and straight and landed perfectly. Her judges scores were 9.5 9.4 9.5, which turned out the be the highest marks all day for all men and women. Elodie placed 6th.

7th, Lloyd Wallace, August 2014
There is normally a good turnout for the FIS Worldmasters water-ramp Championships at Mettmenstetten, Switzerland and 2014 was no exception. Competing nations included Switzerland, Belarus, Ukraine, Germany, USA, UK. The level could not have been higher with the reigning Olympic Champion Anton Kushnir being clear favourite. This was the first competition where Lloyd had performed triple somersaults, and had to focus to keep his nerves in check. Round one he did lay tuck full and lay full full and nailed them both with two scores over 90, breaking his personal best and into finals for the first time. For the final there was a sellout crowd and Lloyd was more relaxed with his lay full full. Amazingly this put him into the top 9 and Final 2. It was time to go big and Lloyd pushed his limits with a lay double-full tuck, a rare and complex trick, which he buttoned. The judges gave him 92.61 and 7th spot, just 0.6 points off Kushnir in 6th who went onto win the finals. The handshake and nod from Kushnir was as good as the result.

And there were another 9 occasions over the last 2 seasons with similar stories. See Results for more info.
Bring on 2015, the team are ready for action.
