17th Place for Lloyd in Beijing
Success for Wallace in Beijing jumping triple somersaults for the first time in the opening World Cup. A clean landing on his lay-tuck-full, a twisting triple put him in 17th place, and top European.
The spectacular nighttime event with spotlights and fireworks set inside the famous Bird’s Nest stadium on a huge artificial hill with snow brought in by lorry. The enthusiastic crowd were not disappointed as both women’s and men’s events were won by Chinese athletes Xu Mengtao and Qi Guangpu, both are reigning World Champions.
Delight though for Australia and USA in the women’s with silver and bronze for Dani Scott and Kiley McKinnon.
Russian men Pavel Krotov and Ilya Burov took silver and bronze.
Wallace’s 17th place gives him renewed confidence before the World championships in January, plus 140 FIS points which should move him into a World top 40 ranking.
