Lloyd at the World Junior Championships

Lloyd at the World Junior Championships

The Junior World champs was a great experience. I was part of a larger GB team that was selected for different disciplines, so things were a bit more official than usual. We had a team Chief, an assistant chief, a physio, and guys, no girls 🙁 , competing in skicross, slopestyle, moguls, dual moguls, and me for aerials. All the disciplines had a specialist coach too, so we were a big team. Everyone was great & I think it was a good experience for everyone involved. Italy is really fun too, lots of great food.

Competition conditions were far from perfect. The site wasn’t ready in time, and there was too much snow when we arrived. It soon warmed up and was then too hot – the kickers were melting which made them sticky to go off. I took it easy until the competition and then went for it.

I had to work my lay-full but landed it. The lay-tuck felt great. I ended up 12th. Could have been better, but the standard was really high, so I’m satisfied with my result.

I am classified as a junior for another three years so hope to be back and do better. The trouble is all the people who beat me, the Chinese, Americans, Russians, Belarus and Swiss are all on full time training programmes, and well funded. British Aerials currently has no funding, coaching or sponsorship and we don’t have any training facilities, so it isn’t going to be easy. But that isn’t going to stop me.
