Diving and Trampoline success for Aerials training group

Diving and Trampoline success for Aerials training group

It’s a been a busy month for the group as everyone is changing emphasis to studying for the looming summer exams but Bobby Fiddaman and Emily Russell took time out to compete in trampoline and diving and achieved success.

Earlier this month Bobby age 16 competed in trampoline gymnastics and qualified for Nationals later this summer and Emily age 16 competed in the GB Diving Federation Masters competition at the Manchester Aquatics Centre bringing home a silver medal in the 1m Spring board event.

Well done to both of them and we hope the success carries through into the exams!

Both Emily and Bobby are part of the Aerials training group where they cross train into both trampoline and diving. They train at the Bury trampoline Club for aerials training under HP coach June Short, who is a former Aerialist skier herself and Bobby also trains at and has great support from his local club at Birkenhead. Cross training also includes diving (1m, 3m spring board and 5m,10m platform) and they both train with Dragons Diving Club at Bury under coach Richard Ward, Richard has supported aerials development for two years and is progressing this alongside his diving career development taking the highest level 3 coaching qualification.

The training team has plenty of variety and great time with their training programme; the mix also includes doing Cycling, Gym and circuit training, Judo, Pilates, Swimming, Boxercise and In Line skating; so never any time to get bored! Emily and Bobby ski and have been taking advantage of the offers at the ChillfactorE indoor snow slope; they will also be doing some dry slope skiing after the exams ahead of going to do aerials water ramp training this summer which is going to bring together their acrobatic skills from trampoline and diving and their skiing. So plenty to look forward to!

Emily and Bobby took part in a talent ID Day pilot project last May (nominated by their club coaches) and went forward into the Aerials training group; so if you are into freestyle skiing, trampoline, gymnastics or diving and feel like some ‘extra adrenalin rush’ to add to your sport, get in touch – the next talent ID day is being planned already – so be part of it!
